CDD begins planning for long-term storm surge resilience; asks for board/engineering liaisons

Eric Long, PSGRC general manager, briefed the board on resilience planning following recent storm impacts and asked the CDD to designate a Board representative and staff/engineering point of contact to coordinate an advisory/review panel and interagency planning.
Long described an action plan over the next five to ten years and said a topographic map showing a hypothetical "Hurricane Milton" scenario indicated a 10' to 12' storm surge could have inundated 45%–55% of the community. He said smaller 3' storm panels would be inadequate and urged the board to consider multi-agency solutions that may take a decade and require funding and coordination with state, county and village entities. The consensus at the meeting was that Mr. Long and Mr. Merrill will assist, and Mr. Krebs is authorized to assist as necessary.
The board did not adopt a formal implementation plan or budget at the meeting; members agreed to support further coordination and to bring staff and engineering resources to the advisory process.
