Residents ask River Ridge CDD to address Lake 8 flooding and foundation risk

At the River Ridge Community Development District meeting on Jan. 28, 2025, resident Rich Batterberry urged the Board to pursue grading and drainage work similar to recent Seaside projects to address water pooling near Lake 8, saying residents are concerned that standing water is reaching home foundations and that one homeowner incurred “significant costs” to mitigate water intrusion.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs reviewed the Seaside scope of work and said he believes the Lake 8 issues could be addressed by completing similar regrading and littoral plantings. "The end result is a product that will function and meet the expectations for eliminating the standing water," Krebs said. Chair Bob Schultz told the room the matter would be considered during the Fiscal Year 2025/2026 budget process, signaling that staff will evaluate costs and timing.
Krebs also noted he will obtain costs to replant cord grass and arrowhead behind 20859 Glen Eagles Lakes Drive as part of littoral restoration work. The Board did not authorize immediate construction at the meeting; residents requested that the Board include the Lake 8 repairs as a budget priority and return with cost estimates for possible inclusion in next fiscal year's work plan.
