Project staff walked the commission through technical features of the planned geothermal system that will serve the new Pollard Middle School. The plan calls for approximately 120–125 vertical wells and horizontal piping that will connect through the tunnel to the new school building; installing all wells could take a minimum of six months and as long as a year depending on rig availability.
Hank explained that work will require stripping organics and topsoil, removing the sprinkler system and sequencing drilling across the field; the horizontal piping will run through a tunnel to the building. The installed well field is intended to serve both phase 1 and phase 2 of the building. After surface restoration the contractor will warranty the restored field for one year and be responsible for repairs covered by that warranty.
Commissioners asked about timing for the field to be in "playing condition;" staff said the target is April 2032 but final playability depends on weather and sod establishment, and they will plan restoration activities accordingly.
