Yuma County adopts FY 2026/27 budget with no increase to county property tax rate

The Yuma County Board of Supervisors adopted the Fiscal Year 2026/27 budget on June 23, approving Resolution No. 2026-25 after a combined public hearing that drew no public comments. County Administrator Ian McGaughey and staff said the final budget uses conservative revenue projections, maintains authorized staffing with no net new positions, and preserves a strong fund balance.
During discussion, Mr. McGaughey told the Board the recommended general fund reserve remains above the County's internal 20% policy threshold and that the Board could use reserves above that level if needed in an emergency. Chairman Martin Porchas said it will be important to begin considering longer-term needs for potential tax adjustments to sustain services. The motion to adopt the budget passed by roll call vote 5-0 (Lines, Reyes, Simmons, Pancrazi, Porchas). The Board concurrently addressed levies under Truth in Taxation procedures as part of the same hearing.
The adoption does not change the overall county property tax rate, according to staff presentations. The Board also approved related budget amendments and district-level appropriations under separate resolution action during the same meeting.
