The City of Chester council moved to adopt ordinance B-7 on first reading, a codification ordinance intended to reconcile and publish the city’s ordinances in a searchable online book. The clerk read the ordinance text describing the reconsolidation and the addition of penalties for tampering; a motion to approve B-7 on first reading was moved and seconded and all present voted yes.
Mayor Ruth and staff framed the measure as a transparency and efficiency improvement. The mayor thanked clerk Candice Newsome and paralegal Janelle Brown for their work assembling the codified book, and staff said the online version will be updated following second reading. The council characterized the project as ARPA-funded and multi-year; staff said the new online codified book will include a full table of contents and searchable entries for zoning, taxation and other chapters.
