Continuum of Care offers data, referral and grant support to local housing authority

Heather Hogue, coordinator for the Mountain Land Continuum of Care, briefed the board on regional homelessness coordination and offered concrete partnership options to the Marion Housing Authority.
Hogue explained the continuum is a federally designated, geographically based system that coordinates housing and services across Utah, Summit and Wasatch counties. "The continuum of care is a federally designated, geographically based system of housing and coordinated services," she said, describing coordinated entry that can prioritize veterans, survivors of domestic violence and other high‑need clients for units as they become available.
Hogue told the board the continuum can help with data collection (so the region can better document need and attract funds), match vulnerable people quickly to designated units and help allocate competitive HUD or state homelessness funding. She said she expects a competitive HUD funding round at the end of summer for rapid‑rehousing/rental assistance and later state homelessness grant opportunities; she also noted the continuum recently hired a data coordinator to strengthen funding advocacy for the Wasatch back.
Board members responded positively and suggested a housing‑authority liaison attend the continuum's monthly meeting. Hogue also said the continuum can help identify appropriate referrals for units designated to particular populations (for example, survivors or veterans) and urged the board to consider partnership arrangements as they create program priorities.
