Staff told the board parcel 37 (on Bay Drive) is largely Bahia grass and offers restoration and public-access potential, including a low-impact kayak/canoe launch with minimal existing stabilized parking.
"It would provide great public access to the section of the creek between the railroad tracks and Jungle Road," staff said, noting the site has an existing stabilized gravel area usable for limited parking. Board members agreed the site has potential but cautioned that an official ADA-compliant launch would require parking and other infrastructure; staff noted state grants for aquatic access and boardwalks could be suitable once the property is secured.
The board discussed connecting parcel 37 to existing trails, the need for emergency access and the constraints of deed restrictions on some Turnbull properties. Staff said they will pursue grant options and include parcel 37 in plans for possible canoe launch and restoration.
