The New Smyrna Beach Housing Authority on May 11 recognized a resident, Kelly, for completing the PATH (formerly FSS) program and leaving assisted housing after building more than $12,000 in escrow.
The authority’s PATH presenter explained that Kelly has been in the housing program since 2015 and in the PATH program since 2020. "She graduated last month, successfully completing all of her goals with over $12,000 in escrow," the presenter said, adding that Kelly has expanded her local business and is moving into the open market without housing assistance.
Staff discussed changes to PATH: the agency has adopted a three-tier contract approach (5, 7 and 9 years) so participants can choose a contract length and staff can extend participation when needed. Theresa told the board HUD confirmed an additional $82,500 to fund a second FSS coordinator for the year, which staff said will help maintain program supports that contributed to graduations.
The board applauded the graduate and thanked staff for program work; the meeting returned to routine business after the recognition.
