The New Smyrna Beach Housing Authority voted unanimously on May 11 to hire Barton, Gonzales and Myers PA to perform its annual audits for the year ending March 31, 2026, with up to four one-year renewals through 2030.
Theresa, the authority’s director and finance presenter, told the board the recommendation stems from piggybacking Sarasota Housing Authority’s RFQ and an internal review. "It did find, like Nelson mentioned earlier, some concerns about our previous audit, which does need to be addressed in the next audit," she said, and presented the contractor’s proposed scope and fee schedule. The contract amount listed for the year ending March 31, 2026, is $23,000 with specified increases for renewal years.
Board members asked about how long the prior auditor had served; staff said routine rotation provides fresh oversight. The board moved and seconded resolution 2026-6, which approves the contract with Barton, Gonzales and Myers PA; the chair called the question and the motion carried with all present voting aye.
The contract will be executed under the authority’s agreement with Sarasota’s procurement results; staff said a copy of Sarasota’s evaluation file is available for review. The board did not request additional delay before authorizing the contract, and staff said the first audit would cover the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026.
