Attorney warns trustees to prepare for ADA document‑accessibility changes

Pedro Herrera, counsel and newly retained attorney, told trustees that federal revisions to the Americans with Disabilities Act require public agencies to provide materials in accessible formats and recommended the board adopt a policy to ease compliance. Herrera noted agencies with larger populations already faced a 04/24/2026 compliance deadline and suggested smaller agencies have an extended timeline.
"The law was required agencies were required to comply by 04/24/2026," Herrera said, and he encouraged trustees to provide materials in ADA‑compliant formats before passing them to city staff so the city would not need to convert documents. He added trustees could avoid quick‑settlement demands from firms targeting noncompliant postings by having a formal policy and consistent practices.
