Building Commissioner Walter Maynard said he did not know the origin of the limit but confirmed technical details: the proposed canopy sign measures 7.97 feet (requiring a 1.97-foot variance), the total logo length is 18.375 feet, the signage covers less than 20% of the affected windows, and it is not illuminated. Maynard also noted the applicant removed service-related elements and adjusted logo colors as a concession to secure approval.
The Planning and Design Commission had not approved the logo at the proposed size, but the BZA voted to approve the variance at the meeting. The applicant indicated he may return to seek a second variance on a separate issue at a later date. No formal vote tally was recorded in the minutes.
