Staff describes an early childhood learning lab as a teaching and observation tool

A district staff member described an early childhood learning lab at the May 6 agenda-setting meeting, saying the space would allow observers to watch instructional practice from behind glass and learn proven teaching methods.
"So this is a focus we've got on early childhood, and we're building a... early childhood learning lab, which is... a space where... you can use it to instruct people... so you can bring them in behind the lab... and they observe without being observed," the staff member said, calling the approach "phenomenal" based on earlier work as a principal. The board expressed support for the initiative and noted it as part of the superintendent's report.
The item was presented for information at the May 6 meeting; no funding or final implementation timeline was recorded at the session and the board moved fiscal-responsibility certification to board business to be addressed with the budget.
