Tourism director reports hotel-motel tax receipts below last year; will return with regional data
Summary
The tourism director said hotel-motel tax receipts are "quite a bit lower" than last year and that early analysis indicates the decline is regional rather than unique to Broken Arrow; she plans to present comparative state and regional hotel data at the next meeting.

The tourism director reported that hotel-motel tax receipts are running well below last year with December still to be accounted for, and said preliminary analysis suggests the decline reflects a regional trend. "We're quite a bit lower than last year, with just December to go," the tourism director said, adding that data from the Oklahoma Travel Industry Association indicate similar patterns in the Tulsa region.
She told board members she will bring comparative state and regional hotel data to the next meeting to provide more context. The director also noted that event calendars drive hotel demand and that the higher figures in prior years were influenced by larger events. "It's also event driven," she said, explaining that some years show spikes tied to major events.
Board members asked few follow-up questions during the segment; the director pointed them to the budget pages for further detail and said she would return with additional analysis at a future meeting.
