City Administrator Dean Cordes told the council that readings showing gas in the North Substation transformer have continued to increase and that he has contacted the city's insurance provider to confirm the threshold required before replacement is necessary. Cordes said he currently has two quotes for a refurbished transformer and is awaiting a third.
Cordes told the council the average cost for the unit itself is around $300,000 and that quoted turnaround time would be roughly 40–45 weeks from purchase to pick up. Councilmember Lance DeLissa asked whether there is an evaluation process, what causes changes in readings, how oil could be maintained or evacuated, and how to extend the oil's life; Cordes said he will follow up with additional information and return to the council with next steps.
