Library and recreation update: summer programs launch, policy work under way

The borough’s library and recreation committee reported summer programming and preparations for capital work and policy updates.
"The theme for this summer is 'Unearth a Story'," Councilwoman Costello said, describing the library’s summer reading kickoff and a 'touch a truck' event for children. She told the council that quotes are coming in for capital improvements (furniture, plumbing and roofing repairs) and that the library engaged an HR consultant to develop policy handbooks and procedures that the committee will review. Recreation updates included soccer registration for the fall and Camp Serendipity beginning June 29 with weekly field-trip programming.
Costello said the draft bylaws for the recreation commission are near final and that the committee is working to align procedures. No funding requests beyond quotes were presented at the meeting; the committee will return with recommended policy language and cost estimates as they are finalized.
