The borough's police chief summarized public-safety activity for May, noting a high call volume, two recently sworn officers, and a multi-jurisdiction retail theft investigation that led to an arrest.
"We had 1,184 calls for service," Acting Mayor Wacker said while summarizing the department's monthly report and community outreach events, adding that two new officers, Taylor Rubino and Jake Putterman, were sworn in during May. The chief also described a retail theft case at a local CVS in which detectives identified both subjects as Romanian nationals believed to be part of a larger retail theft group; warrants were issued and the female subject has been arrested and is awaiting court in Bergen County. The investigation used automatic license plate reader (ALPR) camera footage and interagency information sharing to locate suspects.
The chief highlighted community engagement events such as a popular "touch a truck" that drew families and praised officers for visibility and approachability. The council also read letters of thanks from residents recognizing officers for specific instances of assistance. No further disciplinary or policy changes were announced; the council noted continued communication between the chief and borough leadership.
