Commission backs comp-plan change to allow dealership relocation at former Furniture Row site

The commission approved a staff-recommended comprehensive-plan amendment (Comp 18 72 20 24) to change roughly 1.63 acres from level 3 to level 6 to allow a planned-unit development and later rezoning for commercial use. Applicant Lou Reynolds told the commission his firm plans to purchase the property from Furniture Row to relocate the Ferguson car dealership and has already installed Oakland Street to provide site access.
Staff reported no objections from utility providers and recommended forwarding the item to city council for final consideration; the commission voted in favor and the item was scheduled for a city-council hearing January 21.
Reynolds said the comp-plan amendment is needed now to meet rezoning and development schedules; staff emphasized that an actual PUD or rezoning application would follow the comp-plan amendment if council and the developer move forward.
