Greenfield unveils expanded Memorial Park concept; cost estimate rises to about $150,000

Brad presented a Memorial Park concept developed with the park board and a landscape architect that replaces the leaning stone and flagpole with lower-maintenance steel elements, reorients the space for events and adds landscaping to screen the playground. He said the project's initial repair estimate of about $40,000 grew to roughly $150,000 for the full concept. "It moved the the initial repair budget of about 40,000, and we're closer to 150 to do all this work," Brad said.
Brad said the city will pursue a mix of park-dedication funds and private donations, and the park board would manage fundraising outreach; staff proposed installing an on-site 'thermometer' that displays progress toward the fundraising goal. Council asked whether donors would get a tax receipt and how recognition would be handled; Brad replied donations would be set up as tax-deductible and that the city would develop a recognition process rather than a paver program to limit ongoing management. He also said the park board is already talking with veterans’ groups and that the city may return to council for funding allocations later if needed.
