Council initiates city‑led rezoning to bring 26‑acre salvage yard into compliance

Council member Brown made a motion for a city‑initiated rezoning to B4 with a CUP to bring the property into conformance; after questions about precedent and fees the motion passed 5–1. The property owner said he had tried to work with staff previously but could not get a resolution and that prior discussions led to the disannexation request earlier; council members said a city‑initiated approach was appropriate here to bring the operation into compliance and to avoid losing municipal oversight.
Staff said the city‑initiated item will still follow public‑notification requirements, go to the Planning & Zoning Commission for a recommendation and then return to council for a final decision. Council directed staff to proceed with the city‑initiated application and CUP drafting.
