Rachelle Schlochtermeier asked the Meade City Council to review the city’s food truck vendor fees and permitting process during the March 9 meeting. Two visitors, Debbie Heinson and Eva Martens, presented a proposal to increase vendor permit fees to $100 per day, limit days of operation, require vendors to provide proof of KDHE inspection license, and restrict where trucks may operate relative to established restaurants.
Heinson and Martens also suggested an event-only model where trucks would be allowed to operate solely during festivals, events, or designated nights. Council members discussed procedural details, including setting a cutoff time for permit applications and requiring written consent from property owners before a vendor may set up on private property. Council did not decide on a final change and requested more time to review the proposed fee and operational restrictions.
