Council adopts revised Wildland-Urban Interface map with removals required by state law

City staff presented revisions to the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) map driven by House Bill 41 and agency guidance from the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands. Brian Busch and Jim Hardy explained the state legislation established a minimum structure-exposure score threshold that required removal of areas below that threshold; staff proposed retaining the previously adopted map while making only the required removals.
Busch said approximately 6,368 housing units would be affected by the revisions. Mayor Jackson emphasized the updated WUI designation and code requirements apply only to future construction and are not retroactive to existing homeowners; the updated building-code-related standards would take effect January 1, 2027. Council approved Ordinance 26-30 unanimously.
