Planning staff described a request to vacate a small median (a so-called "pork chop") on Chambers Avenue near 3200 South 1400 East, proposing the area be transferred to an adjacent East Common mixed-use development in order to reconfigure the roadway and improve pedestrian crossings.
Brad Sanderson told the Council staff had reviewed the vacation criteria, confirmed utility infrastructure would remain unaffected, and the Planning Commission recommended approval. Council Member Nicole Handy moved to approve Ordinance 26-33; the motion passed unanimously after the Recorder called the vote. Staff emphasized that the redesign would preserve existing traffic movements and decrease crossing width for pedestrians to improve safety.
