Business administrator: transportation-center rent hike will require budget choices

At her first board meeting, new Business Administrator Libby Simmons presented a memo showing the district's transportation-center rent will increase from $2,000 to $3,500 per month. Simmons told the board the previous lease ran through June 2026 and contained no increases during its 10-year term. Because the notice came after the FY27 budget process, the $18,000 increase is not currently budgeted; Simmons said the district is reviewing two transportation projects (a GPS tracking system and an upgraded video system) to see if costs differ from prior estimates and whether savings can offset the lease increase.
When asked about lot maintenance responsibilities raised during public comment, Simmons said she believed some maintenance items are on the district per a small addendum to the master agreement but could not access the document during the meeting; she committed to pulling the agreement and reporting back to the board with specifics. No formal vote was taken on lease terms at the meeting.
