The Zion City Council read and approved a proclamation July 21 honoring Laura Spath for decades of work with Zion youth as an educator and founder/coach of the Razzle Dazzles baton twirling corps. The proclamation designates Monday, Sept. 7, 2026 as 'Laura Spath Day' and names her the official grand marshal of the 2026 Zion Benton Labor Day Parade.
Mayor Billy McKinney read the proclamation, which highlighted Spath’s leadership with youth and cited multiple world championships and work representing Team USA. Council members moved, seconded and voted aye to adopt the proclamation. Council invited Spath to come forward for a photo following the reading.
The proclamation encourages all residents to join parade celebrations and recognizes Spath’s contributions to youth development and community engagement.
