Council approves 8-foot rear-fence variance for two W. 51st Street properties

At its April 7 meeting the Mission Woods City Council approved a fence-variance request for homes at 2100 and 2109 W. 51st Street that back up to Pembroke School and a Karbank property. Mayor Erica Hartley read the staff report prepared by Codes Administrator Michael McCoy and asked the residents to explain why they sought the variance.
Residents said they sought an eight-foot privacy fence along the rear property line because of nearby construction and a planned 60-foot tower as well as a remodeling project they said could last about two years. Michael McCoy’s staff report recommended approval with the exception of the portion where a six-foot fence should be built; the residents proposed the fence step from eight feet down to six and then four feet to better match surrounding yards. Councilmember Leslie Carto moved the variance as revised by the residents; Councilmember Ramsey Mohsen seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Councilmembers Keith Mays, Leslie Carto, Dan Sweeney, Ramsey Mohsen and P. Hartley voting in the affirmative and the motion passed 5-0.
After the vote Councilmember Mohsen left the meeting. The council did not take additional action on adjacent property changes at this meeting.
