Mission Woods council considers tree-inventory program; Kansas Forestry Service offers free spring assessment

Councilmember Hartley said the Forestry Service recommended that the City codify the definition of the right-of-way. Mayor Erica Hartley reported that City Attorney Jeffrey Deane will send a draft ordinance that would adopt the current state statute; the item is scheduled for the April agenda for council review and a later vote. Councilmembers agreed to review the ordinance draft, then discuss budget, funding and the possible formation of a tree board at subsequent meetings.
The council did not vote on the ordinance at this meeting; members framed the item as an initial step to obtain a professional inventory and to clarify the municipal right-of-way definition before committing city funds.
