Trustees approve first reading of animal control ordinance, postpone fee schedule

The Village of Hoskins Board of Trustees on July 13 approved the first reading of Ordinance 2026-01 to add Title IX, Section 93.29 establishing an animal pound and rules for impoundment, release and fees. Trustee Tyler Classen moved and Trustee Sarah Kimmel seconded the motion; the roll call vote was all yea and the board carried the first reading.
The ordinance text as recorded would add impoundment fees to Fee Schedule 36.01 and include provisions for uncollared and stray animals. Trustees agreed to revisit the ordinance at the next meeting when additional members are present so that any fee amounts can be finalized and adopted. A companion measure, Resolution 2026-02 to formally update Fee Schedule 36.01 with the new fines, was moved and seconded but postponed until the next meeting by unanimous roll call.
The board did not record specific fee amounts in the minutes for the postponed resolution; the record shows the ordinance structure and that the trustees intend to return to fee amounts later. Chairperson Kris Thies presided over the session; the first reading was advanced pending further consideration and final vote at a future meeting.
