District recommends four 4K sections after literacy gains; board approves new 4K teaching position

Jason, the elementary administrator, told trustees the district submitted literacy data to the Wisconsin DPI and reported that 62 students in K–3 had personal reading plans; of those, 22 (about 35%) exited their plans after showing growth during the year. He emphasized recognizing families and staff for that progress and recommended four 4K sections for 2026–27 to keep class sizes smaller and address developmental and behavioral needs.
Trustees asked about staffing and classroom logistics, and Jason said the 4K addition would allow the district to reassign a para professional into a special-ed para opening rather than creating an unfunded position. The board later moved and approved the addition of a 4K elementary teaching position. "At the 4K level...we will collect data for future use," Jason said, noting the district will monitor behavioral and academic outcomes and report back as the plan is implemented.
Administrators also scheduled a 4K welcome night on Aug. 18 (4–6 p.m.) for families and students to meet staff and complete screenings and registration; the event will include classroom tours and a pizza meal to help young students acclimate to school routines.
