Residents urge preserving Riverside Park carousel and train; carousel board says it's committed to safety upgrades

Several residents used the parks discussion to press the council to preserve Riverside Park’s historic carousel building and miniature train. Paul Wilhelm of Logansport Landmarks argued the carousel building should be placed on the local historic register and said that doing so could open grant opportunities for regular maintenance and protection.

Penny Reinhart, who identified herself as a carousel board member, said the board has engaged engineers to address maintenance and accessibility concerns. A carousel representative told the council the train has derailed in the past but that in roughly 48 years no injuries had been recorded and the board is ready to make improvements. Multiple speakers stressed the cultural and multigenerational value of keeping the carousel and train in place.
