Ira seeks $15,000 for fire truck reserve as town reports $100,000 saved toward apparatus

Mary Richthammer read Article 6, which asks voters to appropriate $15,000 to the Ira Volunteer Fire Department’s reserve fund for the purpose of replacing a fire truck. Bruce Gee reported the town currently has $100,000 in the truck fund, described a recent purchase of a tanker from Clarendon for $5,000, and said $10,000 was spent to outfit that tanker. Gee contrasted that with West Rutland’s recent $385,000 apparatus purchase.
Board members and residents said they will continue to add to the reserve fund to avoid a single-year large purchase impact and reiterated the need for volunteers to support department operations. The appropriation will be decided by voters at the scheduled election.
