The Town of Ira Select Board reviewed Article 3 at an informational meeting March 2 proposing total expenditures of $330,996 for the town’s General and Highway Funds for fiscal year 7/1/26–6/30/27, with $233,429.26 to be raised by property taxes and $97,566.74 by non-property tax revenue. Mary Richthammer read the article and invited questions; none were raised from attendees.
Select board member Nathan Hewitt described the changes to the draft budget and defended modest increases in personnel pay. “The Board works hard on keeping costs down. The highway budget was increased by $500 for expenses related to the town garage. The general town budget increase of $7,000 was primarily due to increasing salaries of those serving in town positions,” Hewitt said, adding that the increases do not fully compensate volunteers but may encourage others to serve. The board emphasized that proposed amounts will be decided by voters at the town meeting vote.
