Selectboard discusses 2025 budget priorities, sheriff contract increase and unpaid EMS invoice

Selectboard members reviewed departmental budget submissions and discussed priorities for 2025 at the Nov. 6 meeting. The Sheriff contract shows a 2.0% increase year over year for the same hours of coverage. The board discussed speeding on island roads and will explore installing seasonal rubber speed tables because added police hours may not deter speeders.
Treasurer Mary LaBrecque reported Alburgh Rescue had not submitted a 2025 budget request and had not provided an invoice for the 2024 payment despite repeated calls; she said the town will not make payment without an invoice. Member Joe Deller volunteered to contact Alburgh Rescue to request the material. Members also discussed pending departmental requests: the Cemetery Commission and Recreation Department will supply formal budget asks in coming weeks, including playground repairs and new swings for infants and toddlers.
Board members each offered project priorities to inform the 2025 budget: Pat Treckman emphasized annual tree maintenance, ditch and culvert replacement to meet code by 2027, stormwater work and Town Office upgrades; Joe Deller prioritized a hybrid meeting room with improved audiovisual equipment; Chair Peter Brzozowy proposed part‑time administrative support and a technical liaison for IT maintenance; Mary‑Catherine Graziano proposed stump dump remediation, signage maintenance and exploring regrading of West and East Shore Roads pending ditch and culvert work and a VTrans review.
