Ira Select Board authorizes VOCA cemetery repairs, approves supplies purchase and records committee vacancy

Jean Marie Raiche reported on a cemetery walkthrough with Tom Giffin, president of the Vermont Old Cemetery Association (VOCA), who recommended a strong work crew, removal of hazardous trees (a pine at the back right was singled out), and materials and procedures for correct stone repair. Giffin cautioned that power‑washing degrades stones and recommended the approved D2 biological cleaning solution. VOCA requires written permission to perform work.
Nathan Hewitt moved to grant written permission for VOCA to work in the cemetery and to purchase one ton of Shurpac and reimburse purchase of D2 cleaner; Tim Carter seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The minutes note two burials scheduled in May and June and record that the cemetery lawnmower is at GT Outdoor for repairs. Barb Favreau has resigned from the Cemetery Committee; the board will solicit a new member.
