Staff noted some properties are in recurring tax sale status that voids liens, complicating recovery of city mowing costs. During the 1108 East Broadway hearing, property managers described language‑barrier issues with tenants, monthly inspections and potential nonrenewal at lease expiration as corrective steps.
Kim Ortiz asked the board to “reconsider the fine based on the circumstances and the actions that my father has taken to address the situation.” Staff confirmed prior fines had been paid and that the property would be monitored; the board waived the fine on that condition and approved other fines by voice votes.
