Board approves trade of surplus police weapons for tactical attachments

Chief Heichman told the board the surplus will allow the department to “purchase modern updated stuff for our department and get those issued out to our people.”
He said the vendor has taken trades for years and will provide credit based on the weapons’ value; the attachments are intended to enhance the department’s duty rifles and were described as unaffordable without the trade. Chief Heichman offered to read serial numbers into the record if the board preferred; the chair declined and the board approved the surplus and trade by voice vote.
