The council was informed on Feb. 5 that no opposing candidates filed for the available council positions, so a March 10 special election will not be necessary. The Supervisor of Elections will not be notified and the following qualified candidates will assume council seats without an election: Ray Nyhuis (Mayor); Jeff Grenell (Councilmember); Arnold Aliff (Councilmember); William Daugherty (Councilmember); Dana Merrill Jr. (Councilmember); and Patrick Kaufman (Councilmember).
The announcement was procedural: with no contested races, the candidates are qualified to assume office and no election logistics or ballots will be required for these seats. The council recorded the change for the municipal record.
