Councilmember Dana Merrill reported on efforts to retain a new accounting firm. Four firms were contacted and three submitted proposals estimating monthly fees between $250 and $300 — roughly $100 more than the previous firm. Each responding firm raised concerns that currently prevent them from accepting the engagement.
Firms emphasized the need for restricted access to financial accounts: accounting system access should be limited to the accounting firm, the Village Attorney and the Village Clerk. Some firms stated they would not accept engagements where multiple individuals had system access. The council will continue outreach and address the access and historical accounting issues before finalizing an engagement.
