The Transportation and Environment Committee recommended on April 27 that the council approve a $275,000 supplemental appropriation for the North Bethesda Metro Station northern entrance project to support initial community engagement and conceptual land-use planning.
Council staff explained the funding is split between a $250,000 state grant and a $25,000 county match funded by recordation tax premium. "This funding will be used to provide a non-competitive grant to WMATA's chosen contractor, Heinz Acquisition LLC, to support initial community engagement and conceptual land use planning activities," Mr. Kenny said. Staff also noted that a Racial Equity Impact Assessment (REIA) was attached to the revised staff report and identified ways the appropriation could advance racial equity through equitable community engagement.
MCDOT staff said the appropriation will fund a small initial task with a design-builder RFP targeted later in the year and construction anticipated to begin the following year, subject to procurement and design timing. The committee agreed to recommend the supplemental appropriation without objection.
