The Ossining Village Board on Monday introduced a resolution authorizing the village manager to apply for a New York State Water Infrastructure Improvement Act grant to perform a lead service line inventory.
Clerk read the resolution noting that the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation has made $425,000,000 available statewide for clean and drinking water projects and that one eligible use is a full inventory of lead service lines. Village staff said the inventory is currently estimated at about $644,000 and the village could receive up to 100% of the inventory cost under the grant. "One is more of an identification grant — money to identify lines that may still be existing. That's a 100% funded [option]," said a staff presenter.
Staff framed the inventory as the first step toward compliance with broader EPA requirements and to inform future replacement work. Trustees asked about scale and next steps; staff noted the inventory could reveal additional lines and that replacement would follow separate funding rules. The board handled the item as a resolution introduction and discussion; a motion was made to proceed with the application process and staff were authorized to prepare necessary documents for review by the corporation counsel.
