Council adds $25 water-service interruption fee; raises intact pet-license to $100

On Jan. 21, 2025, the Bristow City Council approved updates to the Manual of Fees that add a $25 Water-Service Interruption Fee for customers who request water to be turned off and on (for example, when leaving town) and adjusted pet-license fees: $100 for each intact dog or cat (with rabies vaccination records required) and $10 for each spayed or neutered dog or cat. The changes were approved in a roll-call vote (Church, No; Green, Aye; Johns, Aye; Peters, Aye; Roberts, Aye; Witty, Aye).
Mayor Kris Wyatt told the Council the interruption fee covers staff time and administrative effort for shutoff/turn-on service. City Attorney Beth Anne Childs said the higher fee for intact animals is intended as an incentive to increase spay/neuter rates and help control the unsterilized animal population. Councilmember Jeff Roberts asked whether the city had pursued a spay/neuter clinic; Wyatt said the city did not yet have a clinic space but that the fee structure was an initial step to provide "some teeth" to the policy.
The fee changes were made effective immediately (Jan. 21, 2025) and are recorded in the Manual of Fees update approved by motion.
