Fire department aims for larger America 250 fireworks show; will fundraise to cover gap

Councilperson Alex Hamilton reported that the Gregory Fire Department intends to send 5–6 personnel to pyrotechnics school after recent personnel turnover and is proposing a larger fireworks display for America 250. Hamilton said the historical budget for the display is approximately $8,000 but the department hopes to increase it to about $15,000 and will fundraise to cover the difference.
Hamilton assured the council that fundraising will cover the gap between the budgeted amount and the proposed display cost; no formal appropriation or budget amendment was recorded at the Feb. 17 meeting.
