Union City to apply for up to $100,000 in CDBG funds to repair stormwater problems at Municipal Lot #1

Council approved submitting an application to the county for Community Development Block Grant funds of up to $100,000 to cover a portion of stormwater repairs in Municipal Lot #1. The motion (by Councilor Steadman, second by Councilor Osborn) carried unanimously.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips described prior meetings with Borough Manager Cindy Wells and Solicitor Tim Wachter about sinkholes in Municipal Lot #1. Phillips said Mansfield will fill the sinkhole, replace approximately 10 feet of pipe and install a new catch basin; smoke-and-dye testing is planned after repairs. The borough is awaiting quotes from JT Patching and Paving and Cross Paving for paving work, and business owners and the Union City Volunteer Fire Department will be notified once smoke testing is scheduled.
