Library move pressured by foundation schedule; select board approves advertising for Clerk of the Works

Staff warned that the foundation needs to be poured within 45 days after the move to avoid daily fees and urged immediate procurement action. ‘‘If we don’t have a plan… then we could roll the building into a hole and have no idea when you can pull the steel out,’’ staff said, urging the board to put the concrete package out to bid forthwith.
To support the project, the board moved to advertise a Clerk of the Works position to oversee construction for the library job, asking for hourly-rate proposals rather than a fixed cap and to list the opportunity on the state registry and bid platforms. Members discussed targeted outreach (VLCT registry) and supplemental advertising; the motion to advertise passed by voice vote. Staff also said they will pursue geotechnical or conservative foundation plans with structural engineers to keep the schedule while managing cost and risk.
