Library relocation prompts tree-preservation concerns; tree board offers to supervise moves

Concerns about removal of mature Main Street trees surfaced as the board discussed moving the library.
Nathan, speaking for tree-board interests, said he had heard rumors that trees on Main Street might be cut to make way for the library move and that the tree board was prepared to supervise (even at early hours) to protect trees where possible. “I'm hearing rumors that all the trees on Main Street are gonna be cut down to move the library,” Nathan said. The chair and other members said the village owns the trees and agreed to follow up with Tom and the village liaison to clarify plans and to ensure tree-board involvement where appropriate.
Board members noted that some tree replacement work has been supported by grants and asked town staff to coordinate with the tree board and with Tom to determine which trees, if any, are at risk and what mitigation or replacement actions are planned. The board asked for a follow-up report once Tom provides details from the library project team.
