Beautification committee outlines projects, seeks arts grant and bigger membership

Kyle, speaking for the Beautification Committee, summarized a busy year of volunteer activity and near-term plans and asked the board for help on a couple of items.
Kyle said the committee secured voter approval for a reserve fund, planted hundreds of bulbs near several town sites, coordinated solar tree lights for the village green and worked with university students on a trailhead wayfinding sign. “We have the flower sculpture that's going into Old Mill Park, and that'll be anytime now that the snow has melted,” Kyle said, and added the committee would like to apply for a Vermont Arts Council grant to fund trailhead artwork and a stipend for the artist.
Kyle asked the board to consider expanding the committee to nine members and to explore creating a formal town landscaping/gardening position to support increasing green-space maintenance. The board asked staff to include details in the next meeting packet and said they would discuss any required legal/financial steps before formalizing expansions or new positions.
