Residents ask Select Board to act on Pikes Falls parking, trash and road-safety problems

A resident identified himself and said summer weekends bring dozens of cars that park half on the road at a curve, creating head-on conflicts and forcing vehicles to reverse to pass.
"I'm here because...the safety of cars and the environmental impact of Pikes Falls," the resident said, describing frequent trash and blocked lanes. Board members said the sheriff’s office had been notified in prior seasons and asked the road commissioner to re-check the site and consider painting an edge line, placing signs to confine parking to defined spaces and coordinating with the sheriff for enforcement. The town also discussed recruiting volunteers for regular trash pickup and testing water quality at the falls during summer busy weeks.
The board assigned its road-commissioner liaison to inspect the site immediately and report back with recommendations for signs, enforcement options and any quick engineering measures such as edge-painting or designated pullouts.
That referral starts a short implementation process that will combine field inspection, signage procurement and coordination with law enforcement for enforcement of existing parking restrictions.
