Town installs new wireless system and approves $100/year security suite

The board heard a technology report June 8 that the town hall’s wireless network had been reconfigured to a new system that can be managed locally and does not rely on an ongoing Meraki license. A board member who led the work said the town hall now shares the same network name and password used previously but the backend allows remote management without recurring licensing costs.
The Clerk proposed testing a modest security suite (about $100 per year) to improve firewall and intrusion protection. "I will make a motion that we approve and purchase the security suite, as described by Tom Colburn," the Chair said; the motion was seconded and the board approved it by voice vote. The board discussed retiring or selling the old wireless equipment.
Next steps: clerk/IT volunteer will retire the old hardware, provide options for reuse or sale, and bring any larger procurement needs back to the board.
