Select Board approves training plan for successor to emergency management director

The Select Board on Tuesday approved a plan for Emergency Management Director Greg Lakas to train Corinne Britton as his successor at the end of his tenure.

Chair opened the discussion by describing Britton’s qualifications: “She is a fantastic individual, has really lovely leadership qualities,” and noted she has completed Firefighter I and is an active member of the fire department. Board members discussed the operational challenge of having a fire-department member in the EMD role — namely that they may be deployed to respond to incidents — but said the department’s recent growth and available backups make dual duties workable.

A Select Board member asked whether a deputy or second person would be available; the Chair confirmed there is a deputy and that person (Tom) will cover as needed during transitions. The Chair said training would include both classroom/state training and practical, scenario-based work with the outgoing EMD. After discussion, the Chair moved to approve Greg Lakas’s suggestion that Britton be trained by him toward succession; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
