The Select Board voted on Feb. 23 to warn an Australian‑ballot vote for April 8 on whether to close Jamaica Village School and separately to place an 'if‑then' buyback question on the ballot asking whether the town would purchase the property back from the district for $1 if the closure passes. "The statutes require that the vote be warned, no more than 40 days, in advance and no fewer than 30," the Chair said while explaining the timing.
The board also authorized a subcommittee of board members, planning commission members and citizens to prepare for an information session and to surface possible high‑level reuse options for the property. After clarifying scheduling with the school district’s calendar, the board changed the town’s information session to Tuesday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. at the town office (pending confirmation of using the school). Resident and incoming member Jason Cass, who has environmental engineering experience, joined volunteers on the proposed committee; he said he had worked on site remediation and infrastructure projects.
