The Saltville Volunteer Fire Department presented its 2025 year‑end report to the council, outlining personnel growth (eight new members, including promotions of two juniors to senior status), training milestones (seven members completing Virginia Department of Fire Programs Firefighter I), and equipment and uniform updates. Chief B.C. Lynch reported live‑burn training, updated extrication gear, battery fans, and new pressure‑water cans as accomplishments during the year.
The department ran community outreach programs including SVFD Kids Fire Camp (two sessions totaling 86 children), a successful July 5 Fireman's Bash and multiple fundraisers. Officials noted ongoing challenges: an aging vehicle fleet (many vehicles more than 20 years old), heavy maintenance costs, and a decline in volunteerism across the region. The department said it will pursue grant funding, in‑house training and planning to replace or repair older units in 2026.
